Rice Upma Recipe

Rice upma is south Indian breakfast recipe called as akki thari uppittu. Rice upma is a tasty and healthy breakfast recipe. Mostly upma is made with semolina means upma rice but today we are making the upma with idli rice (rice rava).

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of rice rava
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp of peanuts
  • ½ tsp of split bengal gram
  • ½ tsp of split black gram
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • ¼ tsp of mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp of cumin seeds powder
  • Salt to taste
  • curry leaves
  • coriander leaves
  • Oil

Procedure:-

  1. Turn on the gas and keep the pan on gas.
  2. Add rice rava and ½ tsp of oil.
  3. Roast the rice rava on medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Take out the roasted rice rava in a plate.
  5. Add 1 tbsp of oil.
  6. When the oil is heated, add peanuts and fry it.
  7. Take out the fried peanuts in a bowl.
  8. Add Bengal gram, black gram and saute it.
  9. Add mustard seeds.
  10. When the mustard seeds crackle, add cumin seeds.
  11. Add curry leaves and saute it.
  12. Add chopped onion and mix it.
  13. Add chopped green chillies and saute it well.
  14. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
  15. Add salt to taste and mix it.
  16. Cover the pan with lid and cook it for 2 minutes.
  17. Add roasted rava and mix it well.
  18. Reduce the flame.
  19. Add chopped coriander leaves and roasted peanuts.
  20. Mix it well.
  21. Cover the pan and cook it for 5 minutes on low flame.
  22. Open the lid carefully.
  23. Mix it well.
  24. Serve the rice upma in a plate and garnish with fresh coriander.
  25. Tasty and delicious rice upma is ready.
