Oats Appe Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup semolina (rava)
- ½ cup yogurt (curd)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- ¼ cup grated carrot
- ¼ cup beans, finely chopped
- ¼ cup finely chopped capsicum (bell pepper)
- ½ tsp of mustard seeds
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp of baking soda
- Water as needed
- Oil or Ghee for greasing the appe pan
Procedure:
- Add rolled oats and semolina in a grinder jar and grind it well.
- Add yogurt and mix well to form a thick batter. Let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables and keep them ready.
- After the resting time, the batter may have thickened slightly. Add water as needed to achieve a dosa or pancake batter-like consistency.
- Now, add the chopped onion, grated carrot, capsicum, salt and baking soda. Mix everything thoroughly.
- Heat an appe pan (a special pan with multiple small, round-shaped cavities) over medium heat. Add a drop of oil into each cavity and let it heat for a moment.
- Spoon the Oats Appe batter into each cavity, filling them up to about three-fourths full.
- Cook the appe on low to medium heat for a few minutes until the bottom turns golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully flip each appe using a spoon or a wooden stick and cook the other side until it becomes golden brown.
- Once both sides are cooked and crispy, remove the Oats Appe from the pan and place them on a plate.
- Serve the Oats Appe hot with your favorite chutney or dip. Coconut chutney, green chutney, or tomato chutney are popular accompaniments for this snack.
