Dal Dhokli Recipe

It is a gujarati cuisine recipe. Dal dhokli is a very tasty as well as healthy recipe for lunch and dinner. It is made with dal and spicy raw roti. Today I am making gujarati dal dhokli in a very simple way.

Ingredients

For dal :

  • ½ cup of split pigeon peas(Toor Dal)
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp of green chilli,ginger, garlic paste
  • ½ tsp of mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp of cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp of turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp of coriander-cumin seeds powder
  • ½ tsp of red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp of garam masala
  • 1 tsp of jaggery (gud)
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves

For dhokli (dough)

  • 1 cup of wheat flour
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • ¼ tsp of turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp of coriander cumin seeds powder
  • ¼ tsp of garam masala
  • ½ tsp of red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • Water

## **_Procedure:_**

Make the dough for dhokali :

  1. Add wheat flour in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, 1 tbsp of oil and mix everything well.
  3. Add water and knead the dough. Dough should be harder than roti dough.
  4. Knead the dough well.
  5. Keep the dough aside.

Preparing Dal :

  1. Wash the split pigeon peas(Toor Dal) well.
  2. Take a pressure cooker.
  3. Add toor dal in the pressure cooker.
  4. Add 1 ½ cup of water, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, ½ tsp of salt and mix well.
  5. Close the pressure cooker lid and place on flame.
  6. Cook it on medium flame until 4 whistles.
  7. Let it cool down.
  8. Keep the pan on flame.
  9. Add 1 tbsp of oil. If you like ghee, you can add 1 tbsp of ghee.
  10. When the oil is heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
  11. Add green chilli-garlic paste and mix well.
  12. Cook it for few seconds.
  13. Add chopped tomatoes and mix well.
  14. Cook it on medium flame for 2-3 minutes until tomatoes become soft.
  15. Reduce the flame.
  16. Add turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder and mix well.
  17. Add cooked dal and mix it.
  18. Add 1-2 cups of water or as required and mix.
  19. Add garam masala, jaggery and mix it well.
  20. Boil it.
  21. After boiling starts, keep the flame on low intensity.

Preparing dhokali:

  1. Knead the dough and make small balls.
  2. Dust the dry wheat flour on rolling board.
  3. Take a dough ball and roll it on rolling board with the help of rolling pin.
  4. Roll it like roti. It should be medium in size.
  5. Cut it into small pieces with the help of knife.
  6. Add dhokli pieces in the dal and mix well.
  7. Cover the pan with lid and cook it on low flame for 10 minutes.
  8. After 10 minutes, open the lid and mix the dal dhokli well.
  9. Add fresh coriander leaves and mix it.
  10. Serve the dal dhokli in a serving bowl.
  11. Pour 1 tsp of ghee on the top of dal dhokli and garnish with coriander leaves.
  12. Enjoy the dal dhokli with rice or as it is.

Tips:

  • If you like onion in that, you can add chopped onion.
  • You can cook dal dhokli in the pressure cooker.
    • Cook dal dhokli on medium flame until 1 whistle and let it cool down.
