Dal Dhokli Recipe
It is a gujarati cuisine recipe. Dal dhokli is a very tasty as well as healthy recipe for lunch and dinner. It is made with dal and spicy raw roti. Today I am making gujarati dal dhokli in a very simple way.
Ingredients
For dal :
- ½ cup of split pigeon peas(Toor Dal)
- 1 tomato finely chopped
- 1 tbsp of green chilli,ginger, garlic paste
- ½ tsp of mustard seeds
- ½ tsp of cumin seeds
- ½ tsp of turmeric powder
- ½ tsp of coriander-cumin seeds powder
- ½ tsp of red chilli powder
- ½ tsp of garam masala
- 1 tsp of jaggery (gud)
- Salt to taste
- Pinch of asafoetida
- 1 tbsp of oil
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves
For dhokli (dough)
- 1 cup of wheat flour
- ½ tsp of salt
- ¼ tsp of turmeric powder
- ½ tsp of coriander cumin seeds powder
- ¼ tsp of garam masala
- ½ tsp of red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp of oil
- Water

## **_Procedure:_**Make the dough for dhokali :
- Add wheat flour in a mixing bowl.
- Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, 1 tbsp of oil and mix everything well.
- Add water and knead the dough. Dough should be harder than roti dough.
- Knead the dough well.
- Keep the dough aside.
Preparing Dal :
- Wash the split pigeon peas(Toor Dal) well.
- Take a pressure cooker.
- Add toor dal in the pressure cooker.
- Add 1 ½ cup of water, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, ½ tsp of salt and mix well.
- Close the pressure cooker lid and place on flame.
- Cook it on medium flame until 4 whistles.
- Let it cool down.
- Keep the pan on flame.
- Add 1 tbsp of oil. If you like ghee, you can add 1 tbsp of ghee.
- When the oil is heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
- Add green chilli-garlic paste and mix well.
- Cook it for few seconds.
- Add chopped tomatoes and mix well.
- Cook it on medium flame for 2-3 minutes until tomatoes become soft.
- Reduce the flame.
- Add turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder and mix well.
- Add cooked dal and mix it.
- Add 1-2 cups of water or as required and mix.
- Add garam masala, jaggery and mix it well.
- Boil it.
- After boiling starts, keep the flame on low intensity.
Preparing dhokali:
- Knead the dough and make small balls.
- Dust the dry wheat flour on rolling board.
- Take a dough ball and roll it on rolling board with the help of rolling pin.
- Roll it like roti. It should be medium in size.
- Cut it into small pieces with the help of knife.
- Add dhokli pieces in the dal and mix well.
- Cover the pan with lid and cook it on low flame for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, open the lid and mix the dal dhokli well.
- Add fresh coriander leaves and mix it.
- Serve the dal dhokli in a serving bowl.
- Pour 1 tsp of ghee on the top of dal dhokli and garnish with coriander leaves.
- Enjoy the dal dhokli with rice or as it is.
Tips:
- If you like onion in that, you can add chopped onion.
- You can cook dal dhokli in the pressure cooker.
- Cook dal dhokli on medium flame until 1 whistle and let it cool down.
