Egg butter masala is a delicious Indian curry dish made with boiled eggs cooked in a rich and creamy tomato-based gravy. It's a popular North Indian dish and is known for its creamy texture and flavorful spices. Here's a basic recipe for making egg butter masala.
Ingredients
- 4-6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and cut in half
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 10-12 cashew nuts
- 1 inch ginger
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- 3-4 cloves, 3-4 black pepper, 2-3 green cardamom, cinnamon stick, 1 bay leaves.
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoon of red kashmiri chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon of oil
- 1 teaspoon of butter or ghee
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Procedure :
- Heat oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent.
- Add ginger, garlic Tomato and cashew nuts and saute for a few more minutes or until they turn mushy and soft.
- let it cool down then grind it into a smooth paste.
- Add butter in a pan.
- Add whole masala like cloves, black pepper, green cardamom, cinnamon stick,bay leaf and saute it.
- Add prepared onion-tomato masala and mix well.
- Add coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook this mixture for 4-5 minutes on low flame until the oil separates from the spices.
- Pour in 1/2 cup of water and simmer the gravy for another 5 minutes.
- Adjust the consistency with water if needed.
- Add the boiled eggs to the gravy, gently stirring to coat them in the sauce. Simmer for a few more minutes.
- Add sugar if you prefer a slightly sweet taste in your curry. Adjust salt and spice levels according to your taste.
- Garnish the egg butter masala with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or roti.
