Panchmel Dal Recipe

Panchmel dal or panchratna dal is a traditional rajasthani recipe. It’s so tasty and yummy recipe. Serve the panchmel dal with baati as a combination of dal baati churma. We can eat it with rice also.

Ingredients

  •       ¼ cup of split green gram
  •       ¼ cup of split black gram
  •       ¼ cup of split bengal gram
  •       ¼ cup of split red gram
  •       ¼ cup of split red Lentil
  •       1 chopped onion
  •       1 chopped tomato
  •       3-4 green chillies
  •       1 tbsp of ginger- garlic paste
  •       ½ tsp of turmeric powder
  •       1 tsp of coriander, cumin seeds powder
  •       1 tbsp of red chilli powder
  •       ½ tsp of garam masala
  •       Pinch of asafoetida
  •       curry leaves
  •       coriander leaves
  •       salt to taste
  •       2 tbsp of ghee
  •       1 tsp of oil

Procedure

  •       In a bowl add split green gram, black gram, bengal gram, red gram and water.
  •       Wash it 2-3 times and strain the water.
  •       Add water and soak it for 30 minutes.
  •       Strain the water and transfer the grams in pressure cooker.
  •       Add 2 cups of water, salt and turmeric powder
  •       Cook it up to 4-5 whistles on medium flame.
  •       Let it cool down.
  •       Heat a pan.
  •       Add 1 tbsp of ghee and 1 tsp of oil.
  •       Add asafoetida, curry leaves and onion.
  •       Mix it well.
  •       Cook it for 1 minute on medium flame.
  •       Add chopped green chillies, ginger garlic paste and mix it well.
  •       Cook it for 1-2 minutes on low–medium flame.
  •       Reduce the flame.
  •       Add turmeric powder, coriander and cumin seeds powder, red chilli powder, garam masala.
  •       Mix it well.
  •       Add chopped tomatoes and mix.
  •       Cook it for 2-3 minutes on low flame. Keep stirring.
  •       Add cooked dal and mix it well.
  •       Add water as required and mix.
  •       Add salt to taste, coriander leaves and mix it well.
  •       Cover the pan with lid and cook it for 4-5 minutes on low flame.
  •       Dal Panchmel is ready.
  •       Serve the dal panchmel in a serving bowl/ plate.
  •       For seasoning,   keep the seasoning pan on gas.
  •       Add 1 tsp of ghee.
  •       Turn of the flame.
  •       Add 1 tsp of red chilli powder and mix.
  •       Pour the seasoning on the top of dal and garnish with fresh coriander.
  •       Serve the dal panchmel with bati or rice.
