Palak Khichadi Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of rice
  • ⅓ cup of split green gram (moong dal)
  • ¼ cup of split pigeon peas(Toor Dal)
  • 50 gm spinach leaves
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • ½ tsp of mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp of cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp of turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp of garam masala
  • 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp of chopped garlic
  • 3-4 dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp of ghee
  • 1 tbsp of oil

Procedure:

  1. Take a mixing bowl.
  2. Add rice, moong dal, toor dal in a bowl.
  3. Add enough water and wash it well.
  4. Take pressure cooker.
  5. Add washed dal and rice in the pressure cooker.
  6. Add 1 ½ cup of water, ½ tsp of salt, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder in it.
  7. Mix it well.
  8. Close the pressure cooker lid and keep on flame.
  9. Cook it on medium flame until 3 whistles.
  10. Let it cool down.
  11. Wash the spinach leaves.
  12. Add spinach leaves in a grinder jar.
  13. Add 3-4 tbsp of water in it and grind it into smooth paste.
  14. Keep the pan on flame.
  15. Add 1 tbsp of oil in a pan.
  16. When the oil is heated, add ½ tsp of mustard seeds.
  17. Add ½ tsp of cumin seeds.
  18. Add chopped onion, 2 green chillies and mix it.
  19. Cook it on medium flame until onion turns golden in colour.
  20. Add 1 tsp of ginger-garlic paste and mix.
  21. Add chopped tomatoes and mix it.
  22. Cook it on low-medium flame till tomatoes become soft.
  23. Add spinach puree and mix it.
  24. Add salt to taste, ½ tsp of garam masala and mix well.
  25. Cover the pan with lid and cook it on medium flame for 2 minutes.
  26. Add cooked dal-rice and mix everything well.
  27. Add water as required (1 cup of) and mix well.
  28. Cover the pan with lid and cook it on low flame for 5 minutes.
  29. Our palak khichadi is ready.
  30. Keep the tadka pan on flame.
  31. Add 1 tbsp of ghee a pan.
  32. When the ghee is heated, add dry red chilli, chopped garlic.
  33. Fry it until garlic turns golden brown.
  34. Pour the prepared tadka on the top of khichadi and mix it.
  35. Serve the palak khichadi in a serving bowl.
